You have to ask yourself why any union, but specifically the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are acting as the Brownshirts for the Democrat Party?

Americans, of whom the vast majority have health care, are starting to wake up to the fact that what they have today may disappear tomorrow in a government run program.

Congressmen who have held town hall meetings have been deluged with outspoken citizens.  The Dems have taken to blaming the outcry to corporate funded “Astroturf” lobbying, and in generall dismissing the voice of the American people.

President Obama’s response to dissent?  Send in the Brownshirts!  His Deputy Chief of Staff said

Messina, the deputy White House chief of staff, also said any advertising attack would be met with a bigger response, these officials said.

“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina told senators, according to two people in the room. (Source: Foxnews.com)

And how does the White House hit back?  With Union Brownshirt troops:

So why would Union members, especially the 2 Million SEIU members, be so interested in Obama’s health care plan?  In a number of of health care bills floating around the hill, collective bargaining agreements are exempted from any government health care reform?  You would think that the Union folks would lay low, and let the rest of us get the government plan while they get their negotiated deals.

The reason lies in WHO the SEIU targets the following sectors: (figures taken from the SEIU website)

• Health Care (1 Million members including any health care job you can think of)
• Public Services (850,000 members who are state and local government workers
• Property Services (225,000 janitors, housekeepers, etc AND 50,000 members in the nations largest SECURITY UNION )

So lets connect the dots here…..

If Obama’s Nationalized Health care is launched, fully one half of the SEIU members stand to benefit through the consolidated negotiating power with the single payer (Federal Government).  SEIU stands to rapidly grow its membership if single payer comes to be, as it is the only rational thing for hospital workers to do to ensure their own self preservation.  Then the SEIU will leverage the power of  its membership to ensure that any future health care cost reductions do not come off their members backs.  This is what Unions do and is otherwise within the bounds of the law.  The problem here is that the political power of this future  SEIU would be huge! 

Imagine what would happen when it comes time to negotiate wages and the SEIU cannot agree with the government or their local hospital.  Workers could strike, engage in slow downs, and otherwise diminish the nations health care capacity.   YOUR ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE WOULD BE ENSLAVED TO THE SEIU in this scenario. 

When auto workers go on strike, only those industries tied to the auto manufacturing sector are affected.

When health care workers go on strike – EVERYONE EVERYWHERE would be affected.

So next time you see an SEIU member at a town hall meeting you will understand that organizations REAL PURPOSE, and why you should oppose any plan which would result in a nationalized, government run or controlled health care plan.
