Senator Kennedy tries to deny the people of Massachussetts popular election of his replacement
Comments (1) Senator Edward Kennedy, dying from brain cancer, has just sent a letter to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick requesting that they amend the current law which requires Senate vacancies to be be filled through a special election.
He claims to support the law, but also doesn’t want the people of Massachussetts to be denied representation.
I have an idea – why doesn’t the Senator declare that he is stepping down so that a special election can be called! Brain cancers have an extremely low survival rate, and he has already “served” the people for 47 years. Maybe he should just freaking RETIRE. That would allow a special election and by announcing his planned timing of retirement, the election could have been held the DAY he retired, thus avoiding any so called “emergency”.
This is a pure play to make sure that a Democrat is guaranteed to take his seat – nothing more and nothing less. You are witnessing totalitarianism in action folks – this is EXACTLY what this is – make no mistake. Just like George Orwell’s Animal Farm, you wake up one day and the laws are slightly different than when you went to bed. Until one day the final law is :
“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”
