Deconstructing Obama’s Portsmouth Health Care Townhall Meeting

By Cassandra Effect, August 12, 2009 12:45 am

So much to tell  from the only town hall meeting that had people shout “Yes We Can!”  No boos, no jeers, no outraged Americans.?  Is it possible that thare are no Katy Abrams in New Hampshire? ( Townhall to Senator Arlen Specter: This is about the systematic dismantling of this country)

Lets the Obama obfuscations begin!

“I don’t want people thinking I just have a bunch of plants in here”

Except there was a little girl who was a PLANT -  we’ve seen this before  (Plants found in Obama’s Online Healthcare Town Hall!).

Does he really think the American people are this stupid? Answer = Yes, because he said this whopper of a lie:

“I have not said that I was a single-payer supporter”

Really Mr. President?  How about when you DID say you support a single payer system?

So I don’t want anybody saying somehow that I’m pulling the bait- and-switch here. I said very specifically I thought we should roll back Bush tax cuts and use them to pay for health insurance. That’s what I’m intending to do. All right? (Applause.)

Who applauds a tax increases?  I hope you don’t have any capital gains or plan on making money – because Obama WILL raise taxes on more people than those making $250,000 a year.

Point number two: In terms of these expert health panels — well, this goes to the point about “death panels” — that’s what folks are calling them. The idea is actually pretty straightforward, which is if we’ve got a panel of experts, health experts, doctors, who can provide guidelines to doctors and patients about what procedures work best in what situations, and find ways to reduce, for example, the number of tests that people take — these aren’t going to be forced on people, but they will help guide how the delivery system works so that you are getting higher-quality care. And it turns out that oftentimes higher-quality care actually costs less.

Explain to me how the government as a single payer (Medicare, Medicaid and now a “public plan”) would not have an incredible chilling effect on peoples care by issuing recommendations to “guide how the delivery system works.”  If you are a doctor you won’t want to risk being on the outlier list for the biggest (only?) payer.  You willtow the company line to avoid being censured, or dropped as a provider.  MAKE NO MISTAKE that this is what it will come to.

Finally, there is this disturbing Q+A that PROVES THE POINT that government controlled health care means you will replace the insurance company decisions with the Government’s decision – and I hope you like the kind of service this man received, because Obama called it a good result!  Read on! (bold my emphasis)

Q Good afternoon, Mr. President. Bill Anderson from New Hampshire. In reference to what you just said — I’m presently under the New Hampshire Medicaid system and I have to take a drug called Lipitor. When I got onto this program they said, no, we’re not going to cover Lipitor — even though I’d been on that pill for probably 10 years, based on the information my doctor feels is right for me. And I had to go through two different trials of other kinds of drugs before it was finally deemed that I was able to go back on the Lipitor through the New Hampshire Medicaid system. So here it is, the Medicaid that you guys are administering and you’re telling me that it’s good — but in essence, I’m dealing with the same thing, and you’re telling me the insurance companies are doing. Thank you.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I think that’s a legitimate point. I don’t know all the details, but it sounds to me like they were probably trying to have you take a generic as opposed to a brand name. Is that right? And it turned out that you did not have as good of a reaction under the generic as the brand name, and then they put you back on the brand name. Is that what happened?

Q Correct, to save money.

THE PRESIDENT: Well — right. Look, there may be — in nine out of 10 cases, the generic might work as well or better than the brand name. And we don’t want to just subsidize the drug companies if you’ve got one that works just as well as another.

The important thing about the story that you just told me was — is that once it was determined that, in fact, you needed the brand name, you were able to get the brand name. Now, I want to be absolutely clear here: There are going to be instances where if there is really strong scientific evidence that the generic and the brand name work just as well, and the brand name costs twice as much, that the taxpayer should try to get the best deal possible, as long as if it turns out that the generic doesn’t work as well, you’re able to get the brand name.

Note how it becomes the TAXPAYERS money, not YOURS!  This is the fundamental problem with  the debate – they think its THEIR MONEY when it should be yours buying your own private policy.  Once it becomes THEIR money you are SCREWED!

So the basic principle that we want to set up here is that — if you’re in private insurance, first of all, your private insurance can do whatever you want. If you’re under a government program, then it makes sense for us to make sure that we’re getting the best deal possible and not just giving drug makers or insurers more money than they should be getting. But ultimately, you’ve got to be able to get the best care based on what the doctor says.

READ THAT SENTENCE AGAIN!  ….. focus on the word ULTIMATELY.  This is a weasel word – it means EVENTUALLY.  After you file your appeals and prior authorizations and try five other drugs that don’t work but are cheaper.

And it sounds like that is eventually what happened. It may be that it wasn’t as efficient — it wasn’t as smooth as it should have been, but that result is actually a good one. And you think about all the situations where a generic actually would have worked — in fact, one of the things I want to do is to speed up generics getting introduced to the marketplace, because right now drug companies — (applause) — right now drug companies are fighting so that they can keep essentially their patents on their brand-name drugs a lot longer. And if we can make those patents a little bit shorter, generics get on the market sooner, ultimately you as consumers will save money. All right? But it was an excellent question, so thank you.

I somehow don’t think this man though that his experience dealing with side effects was a GOOD THING!  And note Obama’s enthusiasm to reduce drug patents to speed generics along.  Sounds like a great plan until the drug industry loses its profit motive and spends less on R+D to find amazing new cures.  I WANT the drug companies making money so they keep developing new medicines.

Congress goes on New Year’s Boondoggle to inspect “Climate Change”

By Cassandra Effect, August 11, 2009 9:56 pm

Get out your blood pressure medicine – you’re going to need it.  The fact that these weasels can claim with a STRAIGHT FACE that they are doing the “people’s” work is disgusting.   Maybe they should have booked a personal vacation through luxury travel company  R. Crusoe and Son- it would have been only around $6000-$7000 per person – A LOT CHEAPER than the $500,000 in TAXPAYER money that these clowns waster.

Lawmakers’ Global-Warming Trip Hit Tourist Hot Spots

Penguins, a Rocket-Propelled Airplane (and Tax Dollars) Also Involved

WASHINGTON — When 10 members of Congress wanted to study climate change, they did more than just dip their toes into the subject: They went diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. They also rode a cable car through the Australian rain forest, visited a penguin rookery and flew to the South Pole.  The 11-day trip — with six spouses traveling along as well — took place over New Year’s 2008……

Lawmakers say the trip offered them a valuable chance to learn about global warming and to monitor how federal funds are spent. “The trip we made was more valuable than 100 hearings,” said Rep. Baird, its leader. “Are there members of Congress who take trips somewhat recreationally? Perhaps. Is this what this trip was about? Absolutely not.”

The knowledge gained is “profoundly important to how I do this job,” added Mr. Baird, who at the time headed the House Science Committee’s subcommittee on research and science education.

Another Home Grown Muslim Extremist Terrorist Revealed

By Cassandra Effect, July 22, 2009 8:31 pm

Another American Muslim jihad convert turns up in Afghanistan.  This time he turns out to be the guys who freaked out New York City last fall due to info he provided regarding the NY Subway and rail transit systems.  Not good folks…..

 From the AP:

NEW YORK — An American man charged with giving al-Qaida information on the New York transit system and attacking a U.S. military base in Afghanistan has been a secret witness in the fight against terror both here and overseas, authorities revealed Wednesday.

Court papers unsealed in federal court in Brooklyn identified the defendant as Bryant Neal Vinas, nicknamed “Ibrahim” or “Bashir al-Ameriki,” who grew up on Long Island.

“He’s the last person in the mosque you would think about” getting involved in terrorism, Imam said.

SO WHO IS THE FIRST GUY IN THE MOSQUE HE WOULD THINK ABOUT?

You won’t see the jihad muslim connection in a headline anywhere in the MSM!

Check out the following headlines:

Newsday: Feds: LI man plotted terror attack on mass transit

New York Daily News: Feds: Long Island man gave Al Qaeda info on city subways, LIRR

Bloomberg: NY Man Pleaded Guilty to Rocket Attack on US Base

Obama Solution to drop in approval- Blame Bush and Cheney!

By Cassandra Effect, July 13, 2009 9:18 pm

It’s what got him elected, so we’re seeing the Organizer in Chief resort to his campaign strategy of blaming Bush and Cheney.  At the heart of this “crisis” is a CIA discussion around potential plans for assassinating high value Al Qaeda targets that NEVER was carried out and actually KABOSHED by Bush!  But pay not attention to the fact – focus on the headlines and allow yourself to be distracted from the tanking economy, SCOTUS confirmation hearings, Iran, Honduras, China, North Korea, Cap Trade, or Socialized Healthcare – your choice.

Imagine – our CIA actually sitting around and thinking about ways to implement the President’s order to kill or capture Osama bin Laden.  Amazing, I know!

But the MSM kicks into lap dog mode to please its self created Obama- Messiah.

Zero Money down loans the REAL cause of Mortgage Crisis

By Cassandra Effect, July 6, 2009 9:25 pm

So says Stan Liebowitz, an economics professor at UT,  Dallas in a MUST READ op ed in the Wall Street Journal.

As you listen to the politicians stammer about how people MUST be helped, think about the fact that most people  in trouble have no equity and are willing to WALK from their home.   This of course drives prices down.  The rest of the country who has equity in their homes must sit by watching both their home values drop AND the Bad Actors receive “help” from the Federal government.  Makes you sick don’t it?  Highlights of the op-ed:

ED-AJ785A_liebo_NS_20090702171214

The analysis indicates that, by far, the most important factor related to foreclosures is the extent to which the homeowner now has or ever had positive equity in a home.

A simple statistic can help make the point: although only 12% of homes had negative equity, they comprised 47% of all foreclosures.

the important factor is whether or not the homeowner currently has or ever had an important financial stake in the house. Yet merely because an individual has a home with negative equity does not imply that he or she cannot make mortgage payments so much as it implies that the borrower is more willing to walk away from the loan.

stronger underwriting standards are needed — especially a requirement for relatively high down payments. If substantial down payments had been required, the housing price bubble would certainly have been smaller, if it occurred at all, and the incidence of negative equity would have been much smaller even as home prices fell. A further beneficial regulation would be a strengthening, or at least clarifying at a national level, of the recourse that mortgage lenders have if a borrower defaults. Many defaults could be mitigated if homeowners with financial resources know they can’t just walk away.

We are at a crossroads where we can undo the damage to the housing market by strengthening underwriting standards in a reasonable way. But to do so political leaders must face up to the actual causes of the mortgage crisis, not fictitious causes that fit political agendas and election strategies.

Bonus – the Professor is a Cassandra himself – check out his op-ed in 2008 in the  NY Post!

This damage was quite predictable: “After the warm and fuzzy glow of ‘flexible underwriting standards’ has worn off, we may discover that they are nothing more than standards that lead to bad loans . . . these policies will have done a disservice to their putative beneficiaries if . . . they are dispossessed from their homes.” I wrote that, with Ted Day, in a 1998 academic article.

Sadly, we were spitting into the wind.

These days, everyone claims to favor strong lending standards. What about all those self-righteous newspapers, politicians and regulators who were intent on loosening lending standards?

As you might expect, they are now self-righteously blaming those, such as Countrywide, who did what they were told.

Justice Dpt. tramples on Constitution to hide Obama Citizenship

In a motion you can see HERE, the Justice Department filed a motion to dismiss the Kirchner v Obama suit (states Obama does not have citizenship thus not eligible for being President).  The motion was followed by a 36 Page brief providing specifics to support the motion.  You would think that proving he was a natural born citizen would be the far simpler way of dismissing the suit.   A Birth Certificate is just one Page – this motion is 36 pages.

The reasons for the motion were:

1) The “Plaintiffs lack standing” – this is most disturbing – read the brief to see how seriously they are trampling on the Constitution.

“Plaintiffs have not alleged a particularized, palpable injury personal to them stemming from President Obama’selection and/or his service as President of the United States.Rather, they have alleged an injury that they share with millions of other Americans.  As a result, the Plaintiffs fail to meet theinjury-in-fact component of standing.”

2) The US District Court where the suit was filed “lacks subject matter jurisdiction”

3)   ”The Defendants are immune from suit”

4) Plaintiffs failed to follow certain rules in the filing of the suit

If  there anyone out there who doesn’t see this administration as the Orwellian incarnation it is, you must be asleep.

The Whitehouse.gov website does NOT index the July 1st Press conference that had Chip Reid and Helen Thomas object to the question format in online “healthcare townhall meeting” in Annadale  that I reported on in Press Wakes Up and challenges Obama! Giggles ensue.  Every OTHER press conference is on their site – EXCEPT this one.

Chavez tries to provoke WAR with Honduras -and Obama helps!

Hugo Chavez lent ousted Honduran criminal President Zelaya a Venezuelan flagged jet in his attempt to fly back to Honduras, even after the Honduran government stated they would not allow him to land in the country.

This was a patent attempt to create a Casus Belli and give Chavez the excuse he would need to send Venezuelan and even Nicaraguan troops in to restore the ousted Zelaya.

After bravely stating the “Blood of Christ Sustains me,” Zelaya backed down and his plane diverted to El Salvador.

The Honduran government bides its time with a statement offering to talk with the OAS – this is a play for time folks – Zelaya’s inertia will slow allowing the free people of Honduras to rid themselves of him through delay tactics with these lame world bodies.   From the Wall Street Journal:

We are waiting with open arms for any commission that wants to come,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Martha Lorena Alvarado de Casco. “The Republic of Honduras has told the OAS it is disposed to designate a commission to negotiate in good faith.”

Honduras’ influential Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez, the highest ranking Catholic Church official in the country, went on national television to urge the exiled president not to come back. “We think that a return to the country at this time could unleash a bloodbath in the country,” Cardinal Rodriguez said. “To this day, no Honduran has died. Please meditate because afterwards it would be too late.”

The prelate also criticized Mr. Zelaya, suggesting the Church was throwing its weight behind the provisional government. “The day of your swearing in, you clearly quoted the three commandments of the sacred law of God: Not to lie, not to steal, and not to kill,” said the Cardinal, who was seen as a leading candidate to succeed the late Pope John Paul II.

Even more disturbing, the Reuters is reporting that Zelaya will be returning to WASHINGTON for more “talks” if he is not allowed back into Honduras.  Why is Obama providing aid and comfort for a President who defies his country’s constitution and laws?  I will let you, Dear Reader, do the math one that one….

Colin Powell defends Sotomayor

Will Michael Steele please publicly TAKE AWAY this mans Republican membership card? For Pete’s sake already!  Full story from Newsmax HERE

“What we can’t continue to have is to have somebody like a Judge Sotomayor … called a racist, a reverse racist and she ought to withdraw her nomination because we’re mad at her,” Powell said in an interview broadcast Sunday on “State of the Union” on CNN.

Powell said Sotomayor has “an open and liberal bent of mind, but that’s not disqualifying. But she seems to have a judicial record that seems to be balanced and tries to follow the law.”

Tries – what a nice word – how about tries and fails to follow the law?  Ricci case is Exhibit A, Four out of Six of her decisions that have come before the SCOTUS have been Overturned.

Powell, a Republican who supported Obama, said his party still is not sensitive enough toward minorities.

The MSM will continue to leverage his “Republican” credentials against us until we kick him out of the party!  What the heck does “Sensitivity” mean?  Different rule of law for minorities?  guess what – Caucasians will be a minority as soon as 2042!  So will Republicans become insensitive to themselves?  This is an issue of Principles and Values folks, not Race or ethnicity.

He noted that Obama had a significant advantage with Hispanics and African-Americans in the November elections. He criticized Republicans who are not elected to office and “immediately shout racism” against Sotomayor, while accusing Powell of supporting Obama because both men are black.

“We still have a problem,” he said.

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has called Powell “just another liberal,” said he should become a Democrat and charged that Powell endorsed Obama based on race. Powell said Sunday that Limbaugh “doesn’t decide who I am or what I am no more than I decide who he is or what he is.

Gee – I think I’ll start calling myself a Democrat and we’ll see how far that gets me…….

Colin Powell: Conservative Quisling

By Cassandra Effect, July 4, 2009 12:37 pm

Quisling Colin Powell continues to pretend he is a conservative and a Republican.  In an Washington Post story today about a CNN interview,  Powell suggest he an advisor to Obama, and DOES NOT actually object to the policy and programs Obama is trying to undertake, rather that he is trying too many AT ONE TIME.  Read his words carefully my friends – he is working as a stooge – allowing the media to suggest that Obama’s policies are actually favored by some Conservatives, and that it’s merely a matter of approach to completing them.

We need to revoke this man’s Republican card, or do as I suggested HERE and start a new Party – the FREEDOM Party.

Someone please tell me what is the opposite of a “hard line fiscal fiscal conservative.”  The vocabulary of the political discourse in our country if fascinating to me, and I have truly struggled with how the media would describe a free spending, uncontrolled liberal, because I am not convinced they can.

The below quote from the article sums up the BS that is Colin Powell – Democrat in Republican clothing.

Mr. Powell said he has been in touch with Mr. Obama regularly and recently.

“I don’t insert myself, but we stay in touch,” he said.

Mr. King prompted Mr. Powell’s comments by showing him footage of the former general’s comments at the 1996 Republican Convention in San Diego, where Mr. Powell talked about his opposition to big government.

“The federal government has become too large and too intrusive in our lives,” Mr. Powell said then. “We can no longer afford solutions to our problems that result in more entitlements, higher taxes to pay for them, more bureaucracy to run them and fewer results to show for it.”

Mr. Powell said that he still believes what he said then, but that he would put it in different terms now.

“I don’t like slogans anymore like ‘limited government.’ That’s not the right answer. The right answer is: Give me a government that works,” he said. “Keep it as small as possible. Keep the tax burden on the American people as small as possible. But at the same time, have government that is solving the problems of the people.”

Honduras upholds their Constitution

By Cassandra Effect, July 1, 2009 5:15 am

A few days ago I asked you to compare and contrast the Honduran “protests” to the Iranian protests.  Those photos showed a few thugs performing the three “L’s”  – looting, loitering and and littering.

Now pictures are coming out of the REAL Honduran protests – people gathering by the THOUSANDS to support their governments actions to OUST a TYRANT.  It’s no wonder that nearly all of the world’s leaders are throwing their support to ousted President Zelaya.  They are TERRIFIED that their grip on power is so tenuous, and surprise, surprise, only allowed by the RULE OF LAW!  This was no coup – it was action to PREVENT a coup.  Probably for the first time in Central American history, the army carried out its legal duties order under their Supreme Court, removed a leader who was violating the country’s laws and then returned power to the elected officials.  Amazing!
